Today we bring you exclusive live images of the new MB&F HM5 RT.

Perhaps you remember the first edition of the MB&F HM5 "On the Road Again" wristwatch.  It was a musing of what a futuristic watch would look like while living in the seventies, and was purely thematic of that era - but, with the starkness of its zirconium-clad case was perhaps a little more DeLorean than Lamborghini.

Now it's been tamed, with a new editon created from Rose Gold and Titanium and suddenly its sculpted from takes on a new ..... dare I say it, refinement.

Of course this is still the same watch.  Still the same majestic compendium of lines and forms.  It is still smooth, still grooved, still curved and still slightly industrial, marginally elegant and completely compelling - yet the addition of the warmth of a Rose Gold upper case changes everything.

The unexpected forms in it’s case structure become mellowed by the warmth of rose gold, but it is not "overdone", this is a silky and tactile use of the noble metal - no  polish, that would have been ruinous, instead the upper case has received a satin-brushed finish resulting in a satisfying richness which absorbs rather than reflects the light.  The under case is made from Grade 5 Titanium, its lightness chosen to balance the weight as an all-gold construction would have proved too heavy on the wrist for even the most brawny wearer.

Even the digital hours and minutes indication has been subdued, changing from the vividity of green used in the first edition, to a much calmer blue hue.

The MB&F HM5 RT is still strongly thematic of the seventies, still a mechanical watch inspired by quartz.  All the features which made the original piece special are still in place including the curvy  lens through which the digital hours and minutes are magnified and those  sports car louvres – fiddletastic little light-giving flaps, two of which can be opened or shut using a small case side lever.

Inside is the same quite beautiful egg-shaped calibre,  created by Jean-François Mojon and Vincent Boucard, and Mr. Eric Giroud's magnificent case is more than at home with its new fancy make-over.  For those who skinned their knees in the seventies  .... gentlemen this one's for you.
