The Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Gstaad Classic Chronograph

Audemars Piguet lend their timekeeping abilities and their name to the upcoming Gstaad Classic Audemars Piguet Rally, and to celebrate the event have launched a retro-styled chronograph, the Jules Audemars Gstaad Classic Chronograph.

Audemars Piguet are perhaps best known to you and the rest of the world for their Royal Oak, designed by the late, Gerald Genta and its big butch brother, the Royal Oak Offshore, but the brand have much, much more to offer - delve a little deeper into the brand's portfolio and you will discover a collection of exquisite timepieces many of which feature complications such as Deadbeat Seconds, Perpetual Calendar and the Minute Repeater.  Two of these collections are named after the founders of the brand, Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet who, after studying at the same Le Brassus watchmaking school first formed a partnership creating pocketwatches in 1875.  The Gstaad Classic 2011 Chronograph is presented in the elegant rounded case of the Jules Audemars collection.

The piece is pure 1920's in style.  On the anthracite dial nothing is outsized, the applied Arabic numerals are understated, the counters are silver-toned and perfectly positioned - right at the edge of the dial, but not googly thanks to the busyness of the tachymetric scale on the outer dial.  On the titanium case-side the start/stop pusher for the chronograph appears in pink gold.  The Gstaad Classic 2011  logo appears on the sapphire caseback.
