The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo for 2012

Just released are images and details of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo for 2012, a piece which will mark the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak collection.  For fans of the brand, and in particular the Royal Oak, it will come as no suprise - but will, perhaps cause much relief -  that to celebrate AP have more-or-less made this one as much like the original as is horologically possible.

Not sure what the fuss is all about?  Well it is the Royal Oak models which have made Audemars Piguet the world renowned brand that it is today. The late Gerald Genta, a designer of consummate importance to the industry penned it, along with some of the other watches you have a hankering for - the Nautilus, Omega's Seamaster and IWC's Ingenieur.  When it was released in 1972, it caused many to question its bold styling, integrated bracelet and the fact that it was pricey despite being made from stainless steel.  The Royal Oak models became vital to the success of the brand - without it many believe that Audemars Piguet would not exist today and Rory, Darren and the lads would be wearing Rolex.  Still in production today, although notoriously difficult to buy, the 2012 piece will be  highly desirable.

For 2012, the dial of the Royal Oak is restored to its original arrangement - most notably the AP logo is repositioned from 12 to 6 o'clock and the textured dial decoration has been tightened up.  The model will be known as "reference 15202" which will also meet with widespread approval.

The 2012 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Ref 15202 will be available in stainless steel and rose gold editions.
