The Chronoswiss Kairos Chronograph

Perhaps you failed to appreciate the intricate guilloché on our last featured piece, the Armand Nicolet M02 - tricky to see against its black dial.  The new Chronoswiss Kairos Chronograph should appease, it has wave upon wave of delicious dial decoration, as tasteful as it is prominent, against a silver dial.

In January we reported that Chronoswiss had been sold to a Swiss investor and how the Munich-based company would proceed without its acclaimed founder was uncertain.  After all, Gerd-Rüdiger Lang had been a remarkable figure in the industry having founded his mechanical watchmaking business while those around him were still reeling from the on-set of quartz movements.  This was a man who had stubbornly continued to be an advocate of traditional techniques, while also unveiling the pioneering Régulateur and Sauterelle models.  Since then, the new owners Oliver and Eva Ebstein have unveiled themselves to be watch enthusiasts who will bring their marketing and financial know-how to the company while remaining respective to the philosophy of the marque - and Mr. Lang will be assisting them as an advisor.

The Kairos line was one of the originals in Gerd-R Lang's portfolio and the new Kairos Chronograph, already in the pipeline before the sale of his company is perhaps a nod-back to his years at Heuer, when he worked on those now coveted chronographs of the 1960's and 70's.  The counters rest comfortably on the embellished dial, balanced by a large-ish date window at 3 o'clock.  Inside is a hand decorated automatic chronograph movement and on the case-side between the pushers is the Lang "calling card" -  the onion-shaped crown.

The Chronoswiss Kairos Chronograph will be available in a 42mm case constructed from stainless steel, rose gold or DLC coated steel.

Did you know - when Gerd-R Lang left Heuer he took with him in lieu of severance a stock of Heuer chronograph movements?
