The Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX7 Chronograph - The Collection's First Unlimited Edition.

Jaeger-LeCoultre formed an enviable dalliance with Aston Martin in 2004, and since then the annual AMVOX timepieces have combined sports styling with some very trick features.  This year's piece, the AMVOX7 Chronograph is, for the first time an unlimited release, a reassuring fact - this is their best yet.

Last year's edition stepped out in the very tasty Gulf colours - orange and blue with some grippy pushers on the side of its ceramic/titanium case.  This year's piece features an almost complete absence of case-side clutter.  There are, in fact, no pushers at all.  This chronograph has a vertical trigger system, located under the dial, which is operated via the sapphire.  Simply lock/unlock the chronograph using the lever on the left-hand side of the case, and a finger touch on the sapphire at 12 o'clock will start and stop the timer, and a gentle push on the sapphire at 6 o'clock will reset the mechanism - fiddle-tastic technology which has been used before in the collection.

The "Aston Martin" branding in this Aston Martin watch is a subtle inclusion, but the Vanquish-inspired influences are in the details - the grille face, the numerals, the spinning anthracite counters - small design elements which combine to represent its DNA in a way which no bold branding could hope to convey - proof that carbon fibre texturing is not a must for this genre.

The upper bezel ring features a unique radial power reserve - two apertures which when the watch is fully wound meet at the "F" at 12 o'clock, in a vibrant red arc, adding animation and contrast to the black and anthracite elements.  As the power subsides, they part company, towards the "E" at 10 and 2 o'clock, providing a look-see through to the chronograph levers - brilliant.

This edition is constructed from titanium, and with a re-designed case will wear light and is styled to hug the wrist a little closer.  The icy-ness of the ultra strong material is lessened with contrasting satin and polished finishing.  A quick change strap mechanism allows for a re-style by the wearer with little intervention.

Inside is the Jaeger-LeCoultre mechanical automatic winding Calibre 756 with 65 hours of power reserve.
