HYT H0 Black and Orange

HYT H0 BLACK AND ORANGE

With its box-domed sapphire and sleek watchcase, and its rule defying hydro mechanical display the HYT H0 is already a modern design classic.  Now the Neuchâtel brand has unveiled its latest iteration, with an arresting colour scheme – introducing the HYT H0 Black and Orange.

When HYT introduced liquid into the confines of a watchcase in 2012, they achieved that which many believed to be impossible.   Their unique fluidic hours concept replaced the traditional structured transition of time with one where the passing of the hours flows gently, indicated via two immiscible liquids held within a tiny medical grade glass capillary tube less than 1mm diameter.

New to the collection, the HYT H0 Black and Orange model features a full-black case and dial ensuring that the focus, quite rightly, remains on the vivid orange tone which enhances the fluidic hours on the outer dial.

The liquid that indicates the hours is in fact black, but is highly legible thanks to its bright orange background.  Conforming to this colour palette, further orange accents are featured on the regulateur minutes, which is located on an elevated central dial and on the small seconds and the power reserve indication which flank it on either side.

On the lower dial, two apertures clad in smoky grey sapphire, offer a compelling glimpse of the multi-layer bellows which work in unison to force the two liquids around the glass capillary.

The piece carries a generous 48.8mm black DLC stainless steel case but the use of metal is kept to a minimum.  Instead, a massive box-sapphire crystal, wraps itself around the piece, spilling over the case side thus giving the entire piece showcase aesthetics.  Beneath the translucent case sides, orange stencil-like numerals are laid out laterally.

Despite its highly contemporary aesthetics, HYT pay particular attention to the minutiae and this piece exhibits superb finishing with meticulous sandblasted finishing on the counters and a combination of brushed, micro-blasted and satin-finished finishes on the case.

The powerhouse behind this impressive timepiece is the HYT Calibre HYT 501 proprietary hand-wound movement which incorporates their exclusive patented micro-fluidic module. Its unusual architecture and Haute Horlogerie finishing can be fully appreciated through the sapphire caseback.

To overcome the challenges which arose during the creation of their original fluidic hour concept, HYT had to look outside traditional watchmaking knowhow, to the realms of science, medicine and aerospace.

As their story continues they have developed and perfect the interaction between the timekeeping and display modules further ensuring precision.  While this blackened steel pebble-like watch with its flashy orange tones flies in the face of traditional Haute Horlogerie and will not be on everyone’s wish list, it stands as a monument to the venturesome nature of Independent Watchmaking and the daring endeavours of those who reach beyond that what is deemed to be impossible.

The HYT H0 Black and Orange comes presented on a black rubber strap with a black DLC titanium folding buckle.
