Hard Stone, soft styling - the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centred Chronograph Black Onyx edition brings a new façade to the collection.
First presented last year, the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centred Chronograph displays its chronograph function and indications with synonymous subtlety.
Bi-compax and Tri-compax mean nothing at Jaquet Droz. Retaining their fortuitous number “8” takes priority over such paraphernalia. Hence, their Grande Seconde Off-Centred Chronograph models exhibit a restrained elegance not usually found on a watch capable of indicating the time while also timing an event or activity.
The piece carries a 43mm stainless steel watch case, with an asymmetrical monopusher crown. On the dial, the glossy sliver of natural stone adds a lush backdrop which enhances the figure of eight formed by the hours and minutes dial and the 30-minute counter. The latter combines with a barely-there pointer date indication which makes a petite leap from 31 to 1 so as not to distract the wearer or obscure the view of the elongated chronograph seconds hand, which has a generous over-hang, with an equally ample open-looped tip.
The piece is equipped with the Jaquet Droz Calibre 26M5R developed for the collection’s debut last year. Beating at 21,600vph, the calibre has a reserve of power of 40 hours and its immaculate finishing can be viewed through the rear sapphire crystal. The piece is presented on a black alligator leather strap with a stainless steel folding clasp.
