LINDE WERDELIN OKTOPUS MOONLITE

LINDE WERDELIN OKTOPUS MOONLITE

Introducing the new Linde Werdelin Oktopus MoonLite, a funky glow in the dark moonphase diver’s watch encased in a proprietary super-lightweight case material.

While the Oktopus MoonLite is ultimately a functional divers watch, built to withstand the depths with aplomb, it also displays this Independent Watchmaking company’s flair for superb design.

When Linde Werdelin unveiled the first piece in this series, they rewrote some of the rules of how a divers watch should look.  Not only did it have a bezel which was fixed, it also had a case whose profile comprised of abrupt angles, squared-off edges, and unusual slants and slopes. Nearly seven years on, the styling of the piece remains relevant, and it looks as box-fresh now as it did then.

The case of this model is made entirely from ALW (Alloy Linde Werdelin), an aerospace-grade alloy which promises twice the hardness of steel while weighing in at half the weight of titanium.  Far from an eponymous publicity stunt, the company quite rightly put their own name on the high-tech material when they acquired watchmaking exclusivity on its use.  In a portfolio already brimming with refreshing originality the Linde Werdelin Oktopus MoonLite will stand apart due to the stark appearance of its colourless case material which gives it a natural aesthetic and for its feather-light properties.

Complex construction is an integral part of the company’s small series collections and this Oktopus MoonLite has a three-part case which seals in its movement safely to depths of 300m.  Yet, despite its robustness, it has been fine-finished as if it was a golden dress watch, with satin and microbillé techniques. Preserving this meticulous attention to detail, a breakthrough treatment ensures that it will look great for longer.

Five stencil-like layers make up the dial giving it three-dimensional qualities.  Beneath these skeletonised levels, lies the disc for the photorealistic moonphase indicator, which is displayed by the blue zero at the six o’clock location.  With almost obsessive attention-to-detail, the dial detailing reads like a miscellany of techniques, with circular satin on the réhaut and top dial, rough circular satin on the lower and circular perlage on the silvery white of the moon disc.   Best of all, the whole façade is illuminated in low-light, exhibiting vivid green moons and hands and neon-like blue markers and hour numerals.

A self-winding ETA base movement, featuring the in-house moonphase module powers the piece. Beating at 28,800vph and with a 40 hour power reserve it is enclosed beneath a solid caseback engraved with the Oktopus motif.

The Linde Werdelin Oktopus MoonLite comes presented on a black rubber strap and will be limited to 59 pieces.
